Santa Maria Valley Humane Society
The SMV Humane Society is the only "no kill" animal control facility in the area and is committed to helping the community find safe, loving homes for unwanted pets and to reducing the population of unwanted animals through its spay and neuter education program.

*The SMV Humane Society benefits from a volunteer-run thrift store that operates out of a booth at the Nipomo Swap Meet on Saturdays and Sundays. Donations can be dropped off at the shelter.

Volunteers for Inter-Valley Animals (VIVA)
VIVA is a humane organization dedicated to better life for all animals. VIVA, an all volunteer organization founded in 1981, has a no-kill cat shelter where cats are available for adoption every Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm or by appointment.

VIVA also has a retirement home for cats called Sylvester House. People can make financial arrangements in their will and with VIVA for their cats to come to Sylvester House when they are no longer able to care for them. VIVA also has a dog program to help place dogs in new homes.
