![]() The 9-5 Grind Is Just Dog-Gone Exciting
by Karen Lee Stevens
June 23, 2005 “If you’re looking for the birthday cards, you can find them over there next to the Shih Tzus. Don’t worry, they don’t bite.” Now, that’s something you don’t get to hear from a store clerk very often. Glancing back to where she was pointing, I spied two eager faces and wagging tails amidst oodles of bubble wrap and gift items. It turns out that one of the employees brought her two dogs, Buddha and Tesla, to work every day. Gazing at these two cuddly canines made me wonder about how nice it would be if we could all share our workday with our four-legged friends. Well, now we can. On Friday, June 24th, dog lovers across the country will celebrate Take Your Dog to Work Day. The idea behind this annual event is simple to encourage businesses to devote one special day to dogs and their humans. Patti Moran, president of Pet Sitters International and creator of the event said, “If you’re like me, you look forward to the opportunity Take Your Dog to Work Day provides to introduce your co-workers to your pride and joy your canine child! You can also appreciate the fun way this special day celebrates the great companions dogs make and encourages their adoption from humane societies and animal shelters.” Ultimately, the goal of the event is to persuade people without pets to adopt one; thus helping to reduce the number of homeless pets. This year marks the seventh anniversary of TYDTWDay and more than 10,000 companies from around the world will be participating. Now, that’s nothing to sniff at! I’ll support anything that promotes animal adoptions and what better way than cuddling up in your cubicle with your canine friend? If you regularly have lunch with your Lab, type a letter with your Terrier, commute with your Corgi, or yawn with your Yorkie, I’d love to hear about it! You may even be featured in an upcoming For Pet’s Sake column. So, pack your pooch and get ready to turn your dull day into a den of doggie delights.
